I hate to admit that when I started my faculty position, I had no idea what LibGuides were, much less how they could benefit my teaching and student learning. I’ve been a fan of LibGuides since it first hit my radar in 2009. And since actually getting my hands dirty working with it much of the last few months, I continue to be impressed with LibGuides highly flexible functionality, their excellent customer service, and the eagerness (and fast response) of their development team to incorporate changes suggested by customers. It is no wonder that LibGuides is the industry standard in library guides, and is making quite a dent in the industry with its evolving suite of projects.

The LibGuides do not provide the research, Pearce said, comparing them to training wheels. Students still do the work. The guides help students get started, introducing them to a world of research beyond typing keywords into a search engine and hoping for the best.

I think LibGuides goes one better than the simple pathfinder. It not only makes searching easier for students, it makes organizing the information so much easier as well. Librarians wrestle with webpages as they can be so very difficult to organize in a way that makes sense to a wide variety of people.
