In this Issue:
Providing library resources at the point-of-need (e.g. inside courseware) is important, as WSU's integration experience shows. It's also important to do it efficiently on an ongoing basis. So, we killed two birds with one stone, (metaphorically speaking - no animals were hurt during the making of this tool) with our new LibGuides CMS LTI Tool.
This new tool enables embedding of LibGuides CMS content into any LTI-compliant LMS (Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, etc.). Being an embedded librarian, sharing library resources inside your LMS at point-of-need, will be as easy as pie.
Simply login to your courseware system, add the LibApps LTI tool, and embed away in your course sites.
Embed full guides, individual pages, or even specific boxes containing widgets - if you can put in LibGuides, it will show up in your LMS too - how cool! Plus, it handles E-Reserves content to boot!
The example below shows Canvas integration but the tool will work in any LTI-compliant LMS. Also, we're fine-tuning the display options so the final interface might look a smidgen different.
It’s here! ¡Es aquí! C’est ici! Det är här! To je ovdje! 它在这里!
(Apologies if Google Translate failed me… ;) )
Set your system to display all labels on public pages in other languages! Spanish, Swedish, and French are currently available with Catalan in process.
Navigate to Admin > Look & Feel > Language Options, choose a language from the dropdown list, and click Save.
Boom – all of those English labels on your public pages are now in the language you’ve chosen! :)
I know what your next question is already. “Well, that’s great and all, but what if we want to change the wording? We don’t want that option on the homepage to say ‘BY OWNER’ – in any language. We want it to say ‘BY LIBRARIAN'”
You know what we say to that? AWESOME. :) Click the Language Customization section and tweak away!
If you have LibGuides CMS, you can set languages / tweak specific wording at both the system and group level, too! There are some pages that are only system level, like subjects and search results, but you can change the homepage, guide pages, and global labels within a group.
Don’t see your language in the list? No problem! Login to your LibGuides v2 system > Click the Support tab and write in to let us know you’d like to help us create a new language file.
We’ve moved the “Introductory Text” and “Button Text” options to Look & Feel > Language Options to maintain consistency.
As a result of the Language Options, we did have to make one small tweak to Guide and Subjects page templates. For more information on what changed, refer to our detailed blog post.
Now you can log in with your LibApps username / password right at the support site: http://support.springshare.com. So if one of our super cool support cats sends you a link to a guide, you can just click it, log in (if necessary), and learn!
