LibGuides v2 - Coming End of April

Full LTI Integration with Courseware (LibGuides CMS only)

Providing library resources at the point-of-need (e.g. inside courseware) is important, as WSU's integration experience shows. It's also important to do it efficiently on an ongoing basis. So, we killed two birds with one stone, (metaphorically speaking - no animals were hurt during the making of this tool) with our new LibGuides CMS LTI Tool.

This new tool enables embedding of LibGuides CMS content into any LTI-compliant LMS (Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, etc.). Being an embedded librarian, sharing library resources inside your LMS at point-of-need, will be as easy as pie.

How does it work?

Simply login to your courseware system, add the LibApps LTI tool, and embed away in your course sites.

What can I embed?

Embed full guides, individual pages, or even specific boxes containing widgets - if you can put in LibGuides, it will show up in your LMS too - how cool! Plus, it handles E-Reserves content to boot!

Catch a sneak-peek at how it works!

The example below shows Canvas integration but the tool will work in any LTI-compliant LMS. Also, we're fine-tuning the display options so the final interface might look a smidgen different.

New E-Reserves Features:

  • E-Reserve Stats - run reports on Courses and E-Reserve items. Exporting to Excel is always an option!
  • Open/Close Folders Toggle - Open/Close All toggle for all folders on a Course Reserve page
  • E-Reserves User Permission (CMS Only) - Regular level users can now manage/edit E-Reserve Settings, all Courses, and all E-Reserve items. Navigate to Admin Accounts > Manage User Permissions.
  • Associating Subjects with E-Reserve Courses - Associate E-Reserve courses with Subject Categories to display 'Related Subjects' on the E-Reserves Course page.

Cool Guide Features:

  • Custom Column Width - you've been asking for the column slider, and we've brought it back. Define your own custom column widths using the tabbed layout.
  • Accessibility Functionality - we've added skip navigation links to all public pages and ARIA tags to search boxes on the LibGuides homepage and CMS group homepages.

LibGuides v2 - Recent Updates

March 23rd, 2015 Update

Language Options

Languages available in LibGuidesIt’s here! ¡Es aquí! C’est ici! Det är här! To je ovdje! 它在这里!
(Apologies if Google Translate failed me… ;) )

Set your system to display all labels on public pages in other languages! Spanish, Swedish, and French are currently available with Catalan in process.

Navigate to Admin > Look & Feel > Language Options, choose a language from the dropdown list, and click Save.

Boom – all of those English labels on your public pages are now in the language you’ve chosen! :)

I know what your next question is already. “Well, that’s great and all, but what if we want to change the wording? We don’t want that option on the homepage to say ‘BY OWNER’ – in any language. We want it to say ‘BY LIBRARIAN'”

You know what we say to that? AWESOME. :) Click the Language Customization section and tweak away!

If you have LibGuides CMS, you can set languages / tweak specific wording at both the system and group level, too! There are some pages that are only system level, like subjects and search results, but you can change the homepage, guide pages, and global labels within a group.

Don’t see your language in the list? No problem! Login to your LibGuides v2 system > Click the Support tab and write in to let us know you’d like to help us create a new language file.

LibGuides Language Customizations

Change to "Help is Just a Click Away" Homepage Box

We’ve moved the “Introductory Text” and “Button Text” options to Look & Feel > Language Options to maintain consistency.

Important Template Changes

As a result of the Language Options, we did have to make one small tweak to Guide and Subjects page templates. For more information on what changed, refer to our detailed blog post

Support Site Access

Now you can log in with your LibApps username / password right at the support site: http://support.springshare.com. So if one of our super cool support cats sends you a link to a guide, you can just click it, log in (if necessary), and learn!

Small Fixes that have a Big Impact

  • Database A-Z Page Fixes:
    • - The back button takes you back!
    • - A-Z Alphabet list now wraps properly on small screens.
  • Guide Last Update Date - Now updates when any part of your guide updates.
  • HTML Guide Backups - Now available under the Guide Tools menu > Create HTML Backup
  • Admins Can Set Passwords - While we strongly encourage that users create their own passwords, sometimes you need to create a password for them. Also useful for generic/fake email accounts that are to be used by multiple users.
  • LibApps Admin: We have a new designation for accounts: LibApps Admin! This designation is associated with the “main” admin for each site. For new sites, this is the initial admin. For existing sites, this is the admin listed in the System Settings > Admin Email field. What can the LibApps Admin do? Glad you asked!
    • - From the LibApps Dashboard, you’ll see a new Admin menu with Customer & Accounts options.
    • Customer allows you to see the descriptive information we have in our database about your institution and allows you to make some changes, like your time zone setting.
    • Accounts allows you to see all accounts for all of your v2 Springshare subscriptions. You can:
      • -- Reset Account Passwords (though we always recommend users initiate the reset password process themselves by clicking “Reset Password” on the Login page);
Note: For security reasons, you cannot change the password for an account that is associated with more than 1 customer. This will not be an issue in most cases, but if you cannot change a user’s password, the reason is because they are associated with multiple customers.
      • -- Make another user a LibApps Admin.
